Abram E. Kirschenbaum, MD, FAAOS, specializes in hand surgery, including operative and nonoperative treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, cubital tunnel syndrome, radial tunnel syndrome, and  Dupuytren’s disease. He also treats disorders of the hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow, including fractures, nonunions, dislocations, tennis elbow, wrist and elbow instability, tendonitis, tendon lacerations, tendon ruptures, tumors, arthritis, sports injuries, nerve injuries, and congenital disorders of the upper limbs. His expertise includes wrist arthroscopy, management of wrist pain and instability, minimally invasive treatment of Dupuytren’s disease, and operative management of upper limb manifestations of cerebral palsy. He treats patients of all ages.

Dr. Kirschenbaum has practiced with North Jersey Hand Surgery since 1996. Since 2000, he has been a staff member at the Children’s Specialized Hospital Hand and Upper Extremity Clinic in Mountainside, New Jersey.

Dr. Kirschenbaum is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Vice President of the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand. He is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, New Jersey Orthopaedic Society, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and Morris County Medical Society. Dr. Kirschenbaum has been Secretary of the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand. He has been a clinical instructor for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in Newark, and he has been an instructor in hand surgery for the Monmouth County Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program.

Dr. Kirschenbaum believes in an individualized approach to treating each patient. He says, “A crucial part of hand surgery involves careful understanding of each patient’s unique needs. For this reason, I learn about each patient’s lifestyle and activities as well as what he or she hopes to achieve with treatment.” He adds, “Specializing in hand surgery allows me to improve the quality of life for my patients. Knowing that I can make a difference in the lives of my patients is deeply gratifying.”

Dr. Kirschenbaum is the author and coauthor of articles and abstracts that are published in prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Journal of Clinical Rheumatology, Orthopaedics, and New York State Journal of Medicine. He has delivered local, regional, and national invited presentations in his field.

Dr. Kirschenbaum has been featured in New Jersey Monthly “Top Doctors” listings.

When he is not working with his patients, Dr. Kirschenbaum enjoys tennis, cooking, and hiking.
